Miss McCarty's Special Project
This year we are so lucky to have Miss Maggie McCarty joining us from Marian College. Miss McCarty has her undergraduate degree from IU in Jewlery Making and Metal Smith Design. She is a fabulous teacher, full of energy and knowledge. So far this year she has been working on several projects with our students including Japanese tea ceremony bowls. The students have created their bowls out of RAKU clay. The 4-8th graders will be participating in a tradional, Japanese clay firing at the Broadripple Art Center in November. Students will use real RAKU glaze and be involved in the open pit firing.
We are looking for parents to join us on Friday, Nov 14th and Friday, Nov 21st for our unique experience. Please contact me if you are able to go - sabell@sjoa.org
Stay tuned to see how our pieces turn out!

The last projects...
Be sure to check out the hallways of SJA to see your child's amazing artwork.
The Kindergartners have just finished their "Rainforest Toucans" and their "Studies of Picasso".
The 1st and 2nd graders have just finished up their "Stained Glass Windows" and their "Blended Bubble Gum Machines".
The 3rd graders have hung their "Harry Oragutans" in the main hallway with vines galore.
The 4th and 5th graders have also finished their Oawacan Animals for the rainforest display.
The 6th graders are in the middle of their first canvas paintings. They are working on Jaguars with acrylic paint.
The 7th graders have just finished their "Scaly Snake Watercolors".
And the 8th graders presented their research papers on Friday!
We have been busy. Be sure to catch ALL of the students art work at the CULUTURAL ARTS CELEBRATION on May 21st at 6:00pm. See you there!!

Guatemalan Worry Dolls
Ms. Zahn visited our classroom to share with us her artistic talent in doll making. It fit in perfectly with our study of the Guatemalan Worry Dolls. She helped us explore many different techniques and create our own Worry Dolls. Be sure to ask your child about the book that we read in class on how the dolls originated.
